ACWORTH TAX RATE
The 2008 Acworth tax rate is expected to increase to $19.14 per $1,000 of assessed value. The tax rate details are as follows:
2008 2007 Change % Increase
Town $7.05 $6.63 $0.42 6%
School $7.12 $6.85 $0.27 4%
State education $2.15 $2.00 $0.15 7%
County $2.82 $2.11 $0.71 34%
_______ _______ _______ ________
Totals $19.14 $17.59 $1.55 8.8%
The increase of $1.55 in the total rate will mean a $155 increase for every $100,000 of assessed value on the 2008 fall tax bill. The largest portion of the increase is due by far, to the county portion of the tax rate.
The increase in the Town portion of the rate, approved by voters last March, can be attributed primarily to appropriations for the purchase of highway equipment, the final NH/VT Solid Waste settlement payment and increasing highway maintenance costs.
An increase in New Hampshire highway block grant money and a transfer from the forest maintenance fund, helped to soften the impact of the increases. The Town portion of the tax rate is actually less than the $7.25 per $1,000 expected after March’s town meeting. Additional savings were realized when the selectmen voted to reduce the amount of taxes to be raised by $23,000, due to lack of matching grant funds. The funds were to be part of the culvert replacement program for Crane Brook road. Tax bills were mailed November 7th, and will be due by December 10, 2008.
