Indonesia Air
Traveling to photograph distant lands is full of adventure and may seem incredibly glamorous. In many regards it is. There are many times however, that the intricacies of adventure travel bring on situations that strain logic to the breaking point. Cheryl and I were leading a photo tour to Indonesia and Borneo. One of the transportation links involved inter-island air travel. My group was on the plane and waiting to take off when there suddenly were a number of people hovering around the plane and some frantic motions from technicians.
It seems that our plane had mechanical difficulties that could only be repaired at our intended destination airfield. The airline determined that the best way to handle the problem was to bring in another plane. Are you ready for the punch line? They left us on the original aircraft and had the other plane fly in tandem to keep an eye on us. I suppose that was an effort to give a solid location in the event of a water crash while on route.
