DEBIENS PROPERTY UPDATE

*

The  land  is  owned  by Richard  and  Jane Desbiens  and  is located on the hillside across from Crescent Lake, with frontage on the eastern end of Crescent Lake Rd. The property abuts the Acworth Gove Town Forest. The acreage is primarily forest with a variety of species. Within the 83 acres there are wetlands and peat bogs, and several streams that flow directly into Crescent Lake. When the land is purchased it will be added to the Gove Forest easement and will be permanently protected. With the addition of the 83 acre Desbiens property to the 296 acre Gove Forest, and the 112 acre Sirkin easement a total of 491 contiguous acres of the Crescent Lake watershed will be protected.

In April  2009  the  Conservation  Commission  voted  unanimously  to  work  toward  purchasing an  83 acre property offered to the town for $125,000.

In October we submitted two grant applications:  A NH  Land &  Community  Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) grant application for $62,500 and a NH Moose Plate grant for $4,999. While we did receive the NH Moose Plate grant we did not receive the LCHIP grant.

Private donations continue to be received. Contributions are eligible for a federal tax deduction. In the event that the purchase is not approved at Town Meeting on March 9 all contributions will be returned to donors.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
