Acworth: Locating Historical and Genealogical Resources: Acworth’s Silsby library (Open Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30-5:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday 11:30-4:30.) The library maintains a collection of genealogy records, with varying kinds of information included, mostly pre-1970s. The library also offers free access to www.ancestry.com which includes most census records. Census records list members of each household, occupations, birthplaces, and ages.
NH State Archives, 71 South Fruit St. Concord, NH: 271-2236 The archives collection for Acworth includes tax collector records and treasurer records. The US Censuses are also here, including agriculture and industrial censuses for 1850 and 1870. These are a rich source for details about ownership of acreage, livestock, and town businesses, including the output of mills. The State Archives also has Vital Records.
NH Historical Society Library,
Park Street, Concord Town histories, many genealogies. Online Resources: www.findagrave.com Acworth’s cemeteries have been photographed and indexed by family name by Jim Pokorny. You can find photos of a headstone and a transcription of the names and dates on it. www.familysearch.org A free website of the Mormon church. It covers some census records, births, marriages, and deaths. US Census records list members of each household, occupations, birthplaces, and ages. It also offers census records for many states. Coverage is somewhat spotty, but it’s easy to search and free.
To figure out home ownership, location, dates, etc. try the Sullivan County Registry of Deeds. The office is in Newport, but you can search online at: http://www.nhdeeds.com/sullivan/SuIndex.html
