Steven got his first taste of civic involvement in Acworth during the spring of 2010 when he was part of an eleven-member committee that conducted interviews of seven potential candidates who had applied for the job of Highway Supervisor.
Steven is a hardworking family man who has lived in South Acworth since the early 1990’s with his wife, Tanya, and their two children, Benjamin and Josie. He was born in Rockingham, Vermont and has lived in New England his entire life.
During fair weather Steven can be seen in South Acworth riding his horse with his daughter, Josie, on her pony. Most people in town are familiar with Steven’s wife, Tanya, who has been a volunteer at the South Acworth Village Store for several years.
As part of life on a farm, Steven has firsthand experience with heavy equipment. He owns and operates a bulldozer, backhoe and dump truck.
As the Buildings and Operations Director at Simon Pearce Glass, Steven supervises ten employees. He is responsible for all of the services and expenses related to the interior and exterior maintenance of the buildings and grounds, as well as developing and maintaining all production equipment for three Simon Pearce Glass facilities located in Quechee, Vermont, Windsor, Vermont and Westchester, Pennsylvania.
A significant aspect of Steven’s job is managing budgets that total well over one million dollars. When dealing with a very large budget that has considerable fluctuations in cash flow, "You get really strategic about where the money is going," said Steven. He said that tight communication among employees is very important and the only way to keep things running efficiently.
Steven works long hours during the week and mostly keeps to himself on weekends. He believes that his low profile in town would be an advantage as Selectman. Steven would come to the table with a clean agenda and a common sense approach to problem solving, rather than being a representative of any particular political group in Acworth.
Steven said, "I’ve lived in Acworth for nearly twenty years now and we’re at least a half hour and uphill from anywhere, but I still look forward to coming home every day."
Steven Holt recently decided to run for the office of Acworth Selectman. He is one of two candidates who have filed to fill an open seat on the Selectboard.
"I come to this position with an open mind and a desire to work for the best interest of the town, rather than representing the interests of any particular group," replied Steven when asked why he had signed up to run for Selectman. "I'm my own man. I'm not affiliated with a group, or any particular side in town."
As a taxpayer and fiscal conservative, Steven would like to keep our taxes low while still moving forward and making progress in management of the town. He said that it's unrealistic to believe we shouldn't spend anything on our infrastructure, but we need to make wise choices that are efficient and cost-effective.
